Pro-Stretch create innovative trims with sustainable materials which helps us reduce our carbon footprint while supporting the natural environment.

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. An example of sustainable is the practice of reduce, reuse and recycle.

So how are Pro-Stretch helping the planet?

Starting right at the source of a products life cycle we endeavour to reduce our Carbon footprint. We reduce the processes and workforce behind the creation of our products. We offer a careful approach to product development and manufacture, sourcing sustainable materials for our tapes and elastics, including Recycled Polyester, Recycled Nylon, BCI Cotton (Better Cotton Initiative*) and Organic Cotton. Recent additions to our recycled and bio-degradable products include Sorona corn fibre, Tencel, Coconut, Bamboo carbon fibre, Ocean recycled polyester, Hemp, TPU, Linen and Bio-corn.

Lets follow the journey of a Pro-Stretch trim:

Firstly, the team work with our customers development teams to decide on a suitable design for their requirements. With many of our customers needing specific requirements, that require precise artwork and manufacture, this can be a lengthy but positive process.

“We begin by sourcing natural, suitable, sustainable materials, that not only help the planet and environment but also create a superb quality product for our customers; many we are proud to say are amongst the top sports and leisurewear manufacturers in the world, and include brands who are incorporating sustainability within their own models”

Christine Morgan CEO

In fact 95% of our products are sustainable with our largest customer programmes!

Working alongside our factories in Southern China, and Vietnam; we ensure we have safe working environments and promote fair wages for all employees. We then create a product design sample for our customer, this could be anything from an elastic trim, to draw cords and labels, or even a stretch trim using our patented Mechanical Stretch technology.

Other sustainable products we have recently created are made from Tencel, Hemp and TPU. With so many possibilities the choice is endless!

Here’s a few of our BEST SELLING sustainable products:

Tencel is a sustainably sourced natural wood-based fibre made from natural cellulose found in eucalyptus wood pulp. Tencel has biodegradable and compostable fibres that. The breathable and lightweight Tencel trim is very popular with brands due to its soft and durable qualities.

Corn fibre (and Sorona corn fibre) yarns are a soft, flexible eco-friendly product made from fermenting the plant sugars found in corn. Corn fibre is hard-wearing, quick-drying and can be blended with other sustainable fibres such as Bamboo to create a fully environmentally friendly trim.

Bamboo carbon fibre flat drawcord by Pro-Stretch

Bamboo is a durable functional trim that can easily biodegrade after use. Regular harvesting of Bamboo benefits the health of the plant and promotes stronger regrowth. Bamboo transforms easily into yarn using regenerated cellulosic fibre and contain natural moisture-wicking properties, providing a garment with a soft trim that has natural stretch.

Coconut Buttons and stoppers by Pro-Stretch

Coconut buttons & drawcord stoppers are a lightweight and durable alternative for an eco-friendly garment. The coconut shell is the otherwise-wasted byproduct of the food manufacturing process. Due to not requiring deforestation to make; coconut is a renewable resource and therefore sustainable.

Did you know that Pro-Stretch use innovative patented technology?

Our patented mechanical S-T-R-E-T-C-H innovation enables rigid tapes and/or labels to be permanently converted into mechanical stretch products WITHOUT USING CHEMICALS OR LYCRA. Using 100% Recycled Polyester and/or Polyester/Cotton mixes.

This process removes all shrinkage whilst giving 5%-12% stretch. This eliminates puckering and is applied to the garment using the same method as a traditional rigid tape.

Also, our ground-breaking Super Stretch tape has approximately 20% stretch which is only slightly less than an elastic quality but without the shrinkage.

This can be used for various products where a more elastic product is required.

*The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. Together with their partners they provide training on more sustainable farming practices to more than two million cotton farmers in 21 countries. In the 2017-18 cotton season, licensed BCI Farmers produced more than five million metric tonnes of ‘Better Cotton’ – that accounts for around 19% of global cotton production.
